Concrete Scanning in Florida
In a recent concrete scanning project in Florida, a concrete slab was scanned to locate pt cables. The customer was concerned about damaging post tension cables when drilling a 4″ core for a new plumbing line. The technician was able to mobilize to the site. The technician scanned an area approximately 2′ x 2′ for this project. The area was scanned in a grid pattern with multiple passes in each direction to ensure complete coverage. The handheld ground penetrating radar unit was pushed over the concrete, releasing electromagnetic pulses. The pulses are relayed from the antenna to the digital display also called a SIR unit for interpretation by the technician. Based on extensive training, the technician was able to determine the location of the post tension cables and rebar. The pt cables were marked on the surface with red crayon, allowing the customer to drill immediately.

- Locating of post tension and pre-stressed cables
- Locating of reinforcing steel/rebar
- Locating of embedded conduits
- Detecting voids in and below the concrete slab
- Verifying slab thickness
- Verifying cover and spacing of reinforcing steel/rebar
- Verification of concrete footers
