Concrete Scanning Project In North Miami, Florida

Concrete Scanning Project in North Miami, Florida

GPR Scanning Services, LLC recently completed a concrete scanning project in North Miami, Florida. The engineer was interested in determining the amount, location and depth of the reinforcing steel in a 7-story parking garage. The image scanning involved scanning multiple shear walls, structural columns and beams, and double t concrete. The project was completed on different floors throughout the garage. The GPR technician was able to locate and mark the reinforcing steel directly on the surface with crayon and marker. The approximate depth to the top of the reinforcing steel was determined and also indicated on the concrete surface. Each scan area was scanned in a grid pattern with multiple scans in each direction. The peak of each anomaly is located and marked on the concrete. Once multiple scans in each direction have been completed, the results are straight-lined with a level. The technician used 2 separate pieces of gpr scanning equipment on the project. A 2000MHz palm antenna and 2700MHz Mini LXT ground penetrating radar antenna to scan the areas. These units can also be used to determine the location of post tension cables, locate conduits in and directly below on slab on grade concrete, concrete thickness, and the location of grouted/un-grouted cells in CMU block walls. GPR emits electromagnetic pulses into the concrete and delivers no harmful radiation. GPR poses no health risks to workers or the public. A buffer zone is not needed to complete the ground penetrating radar scanning, construction work can continue while the concrete scanning work is completed. Additionally, only one side of the concrete is required to complete the scanning. A utility locating wand can be used to locate live electrical conduits in the concrete slab.
