Concrete Radar Imaging Project In Miami, Florida

Concrete Radar Imaging Project in Miami, Florida

GPR Scanning Services, LLC completed a concrete radar imaging project in Miami, Florida. The customer was renovating a condominium bathroom where core drilling was needed to relocate the plumbing lines. The building engineer required ground penetrating radar scanning prior to drilling. GPR scanning is a proven method to locate post tension cables, rebar, and conduits in the concrete slab prior to drilling. The GPR technician was able to locate and mark the PT cables, reinforcing steel, and conduits directly on the surface with a marker. The data is displayed in real-time which allowed the customer to drill immediately following the gpr concrete imaging. The GPR technician used a 2700MHz ground penetrating radar antenna with LineTrac to scan the concrete. The LineTrac attachment locates live electrical in the concrete. The antenna is specifically designed for use in a variety of concrete applications such as locating post tension cables, reinforcing steel/rebar, and conduits along with locating voids. It can also determine concrete thickness, depth of the reinforcing cover, and grouted/ungrouted cells in CMU block walls. GPR emits electromagnetic pulses into the concrete which is interpreted by the technician. GPR poses no health risks to residents and the workers did not need to leave the unit while the concrete scanning work was completed. A 2′ x 2′ scan area typically requires 15 minutes to complete. The results are marked on the surface with customer-approved markings. Additionally, only one side of the concrete is required to complete the scanning. A utility locating wand can also be used to locate live electrical conduits in the concrete slab. Customer safety is the #1 priority for each job.
