GPR Concrete Scanning in St. Petersburg, Florida
GPR Scanning Services, LLC was hired to perform gpr concrete scanning in St. Petersburg, Florida. The residential condominium building was in the heart of downtown St. Pete. The homeowner was interested in moving the location of a ceiling fan and installing a sunshade on the patio. The project would entail drilling into the concrete slab. The condo building was very concerned that no structural reinforcement would be damaged during drilling. Therefore, the building engineer required ground penetrating radar prior to any drilling or saw cutting into the concrete. GPR scanning only requires access to one side of the concrete to complete the scans. The concrete imaging service aids in the locating of rebar, post tension cables and conduits. The results of the concrete scanning, allowed the homeowner to determine where to drill without damaging any reinforcing steel, pt cables or conduits. The radar scanning was completed by using a 1600MHz antenna. The antenna is attached to a handcart and was pushed over the concrete surface. The antenna releases electromagnetic pulses into the concrete. The results are sent back to a control unit and displayed on a screen for interpretation by the technician. The technician was then able to locate and mark the anomalies on the surface using customer approved markings to a depth of 3″. With the scan results completed, the technician worked with the homeowner to clear locations to drill. These locations were free and clear of any obstructions and would allow the homeowner to drill safely and without costly damage to the building structure.
