Scanning Elevated Concrete Slab with GPR
GPR Scanning Services, LLC completed a concrete scanning project using ground penetrating radar on a slab in Madeira Beach near St. Petersburg, Florida. The 7 story building was in the final stages of construction when the technician arrived to complete the gpr scanning. The general contractor hired GPR Scanning Services to scan the concrete prior to penetrating the roof slab to install new roof drains and anchors for service walls. The gpr technician was able to lay out the location of the post tension cables, rebar and conduits directly on the surface using approved markings. With the results marked out, the contractor could determine where to drill without damaging any structural support in the concrete. The accuracy of GPR is 1/4″ to the center of the reaction and 1/2″ in depth under normal scanning conditions.
The 1600MHz ground penetrating radar antenna can scan concrete up to 18″ in thickness. The concrete images are displayed on the control unit and are interpreted by the technician on site. The findings are immediate with no delay or processing time needed. A 2′ x 2′ area can be scanned thoroughly within minutes. The quick results help to save time and money. Other construction trades could continue working nearby during the gpr service. GPR scans release no harmful radiation or pose other health hazards. Also no buffer zones are needed in the scan area like typical x-ray service. Only one technician is needed on site to complete the gpr concrete scanning. X-ray service requires a minimum of 2 people to complete.
