Utility Locate to Clear Soil Borings

GPR Scanning Services, LLC completed a utility locate to clear soil borings in Hollywood, Florida. The utility locating project consisted of scanning a 10′ radius around 9 proposed soil boring locations. The borings were being completed to analyze any soil contamination from a gas service station next to the property. Each boring location was cleared using ground penetrating radar and a utility locating wand/transmitter. A 400MHz ground penetrating radar antenna was used on the project. The antenna can reach depths up to 10′ but is dependent upon soil conditions in the scan area. The gpr unit is pushed over the surface in a grid-like pattern to maximize the gpr data collected. The data is displayed on a screen in real-time allowing the technician to interpret and mark directly on the surface with spray paint. A utility sweep is performed with a utility wand to locate live power and other voltage lines. The utility wand was partnered with a utility transmitter to place a distinct frequency signal onto existing site lighting. The site lighting was traced from light pole to light pole throughout the parking lot. Several storm drains were in conflict with the boring locations. The customer was able to move each location so no lines were damaged during drilling. After completion of the service, the technician completes an on-site job ticket that notates equipment used, restrictions and limitations, and any other information critical to the project. Photos of the scan areas are captured and placed into the job ticket for documentation. Additional services can include GPS, maps, and reporting based on the needs of the customer.
